GLYCEROL

Glycerol, also called glycerine or glycerin, is a simple triol compound. It is a colorless, odorless, viscous liquid that is sweet-tasting and non-toxic. It is commonly found in lipids like triglycerides and can be obtained from animal and plant sources. It is widely used as a sweetening agent, solvent, pharmaceutical agent or emollient. It is miscible with water. Glycerin is produced through saponification, hydrolysis, and transesterification of triglycerides. Synthetic glycerol can be produced by propylene.
